Clashes at a National Guard site in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka: what is known on 2 November

Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, Kyiv Oblast

On the evening of 2 November 2026 a crowd gathered outside a private house in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka near Kyiv after social-media claims of unlawful detention. The building was a temporary National Guard deployment site; clashes left vehicles damaged, service members hospitalized, and an SBI criminal case opened.

Kyiv Oblast police said the first call came from a private ambulance crew blocked from reaching a patient. Locals gathered; social feeds claimed a «torture site», dozens held inside, even a death. Police officially denied unlawful detention and any fatality.

What was inside the house

The National Guard’s 1st Corps «Azov» confirmed the site was a temporary deployment point of unit 3121, housing newly mobilized troops and returnees after AWOL awaiting reassignment. NGU commander Oleksandr Pivnenko said four service members were hospitalized and promised to check mistreatment claims. Kyrylo Budanov later referred to about 14 people at the site.

How events unfolded

The crowd demanded entry, kicked gates, threw stones, eggs, fireworks and smoke grenades. Pivnenko and Presidential Office head Kyrylo Budanov arrived and entered with some civilians. People were led out onto a bus — parts of the crowd then smashed the bus and police cars and tried to tip the bus. Around 22:30 reporters described a mass brawl and sounds resembling gunshots.

Information about alleged unlawful detention of people and the death of a citizen does not correspond to reality.

Investigation

Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation opened a case under Criminal Code Art. 426-1 §5 (abuse of military authority). Investigators will examine conditions inside the house, coercion claims, and how the clash unfolded. The Interior Ministry ordered an internal probe on 2 November. Many social-media versions remain contradictory and unverified.
